MOTD: moon phase

Post by Gambit »

If I had a dollar for every time someone logs in, then 5 minutes later goes "Oh it is gmoon" I would be a very well tipped person.

When it is an active moon phase having some kind of motd saying so would alleviate this. That way we never have to spend five minutes prepping to do something only for circumstances to dictate otherwise.

Yep, Gambit is spot on!

Would be nice if there was also a gmoon calculator on the website so we can see something like 'gmoon is 3 hours and 45 minutes away' or something.

Thanks LL!

I think there is a bug with it though, it appears to be counting backwards

Updated when logging in, when using the new /moon command in game, or when accessing the "Who" page on the website.

On website:
01:53:37 to the New Moon. {DD:HH:MM Aranock time}

53 hours?

Perhaps "01h 53m 37s to the New Moon"?

Aranock Days = 80 real minutes.

1 Aranock = 24 Aranock Hours
1 Aranock Hour = 60 Aranock Minutes
1 Aranock minutes = 60 Aranock seconds
18 Aranock Second = 1 TICK
1 real second = 18 TICKS

Someone with time to spare can check my maths.

I timed it once, 1 aranock day is 80 min exactly. So check on that.
The math was no issue. The listed format was, it showed hours, minutes and seconds, but was suggested to be aranock days, hours and minutes.

I'm working on an android app to notify me when gmoon is happening.

So far I've found that 1 real life minute is exactly 18 aranock minutes ( 1 Aranock minute per 3.333333 RL seconds)
1 aranock day is exactly 80 aranock minutes, and 28 days in an Aranock month.

Code: Select all

MercTime{year=0, day=289, hour=4, minute=20}
calc: 11/10
Seconds per minute: 3.3333333333333335
Seconds per day: 4800.0
Minutes per day: 80.0
Time Until Next Moon: 06:28:53 (Hour:Minute:Seconds since this post - some minutes for copy/paste)
Moon begins: 2022-03-16T00:04:38.645-06:00[America/Denver]
So midnight tonight MST should be the next moon

Your math is spot on LL

Thanks Jaigur.

Marky it is supposed to be DD:HH:MM in Aranock time. Aranock seconds not shown as they are in 1/18th of a real second.

Oh.
Maybe I fixed it on the website and not in the game.
Let me look.

When did you take that snap shot?

It is leading to the Full Moon now so I can not tell.
The server code is the same as the website code and I thought I had fixed it at the start of the last New Moon cycle.

I will need to wait for the next cycle to test it.
