GC does not follow in Castle quest 4 Shield teleport

When grabbing the shield after drinking all the wine, the GC does not follow you. I am not sure if you keep the shield if you recall since that would defeat the purpose of teleporting you further from the recall point and walking back so I walked back and my pet died and I lost luck before I could touch the portal to leave.
